TEC ART x Lumus Instruments present "Radiant Voids" at Katoenhuis during Rotterdam Art Week
TEC ART in collaboration with Lumus Instruments presents “Radiant Voids”, an exhibition at the junction of art and technology inside the spaces of Katoenhuis | Rotterdam's Immersive Experience Hub.
The debut show to awaken the halls of Katoenhuis with the immersive works of leading Dutch new media artists will be open during Rotterdam Art Week 2024. Nestled within the open spaces of a former cotton warehouse in the emerging M4H area, this first exhibition breathes life into its space, transforming emptiness into an experience of warped perception.
Featuring works of Lumus Instruments, Boris Acket, Robin Beekman, Elsemarijn Bruys, Timo Lejeune, and Simone Smelt.
TEC ART presenteert in samenwerking met Lumus Instruments "Radiant Voids", een tentoonstelling op het kruispunt van kunst en technologie in de ruimtes van Katoenhuis | Rotterdam's Immersive Experience Hub.
De eerste tentoonstelling die de zalen van het Katoenhuis wakker schudt met het meeslepende werk van toonaangevende Nederlandse nieuwe mediakunstenaars zal te zien zijn tijdens Rotterdam Art Week 2024. Genesteld in de open ruimtes van een voormalige katoenopslag in de opkomende wijk M4H, blaast deze tentoonstelling leven in de ruimte en transformeert leegte in een ervaring van verwrongen perceptie.
Deelnemende kunstenaars: Lumus Instruments, Boris Acket, Robin Beekman, Elsemarijn Bruys, Timo Lejeune, Simone Smelt.
Nieuwe Immersive Experience Hub komt naar Rotterdam!

Immersive Experiences (IX) vormen wereldwijd een snelgroeiende miljardenindustrie. De toepassingen van immersieve technologieën zoals VR, Web 3.0, digital twins en grootschalige videoprojecties strekken zich uit over diverse sectoren, waaronder onderwijs, training & simulatie, wetenschap, gaming, media, kunst en entertainment. Om Nederland, en vooral Rotterdam, een leidende positie te geven in deze wereldmarkt en sociale en economische impact te maken, zijn IX-hubs van essentieel belang.
Katoenhuis Rotterdam, ontstaan uit de beeldbepalende historische Katoenloodsen Van Bennekum’s Havenbedrijf, is strategisch gelegen in het hart van het Rotterdam Makers District – M4H. Het gebouw staat, na 1,5 jaar voorbereiding, op het punt een toonaangevende IX-hub van 6.000 m² te worden. Deze hub brengt kunstenaars, technologiebedrijven en onderwijsinstellingen samen om te werken met, en aan immersieve technologieën. Het biedt cruciale infrastructuur voor makers, creatief talent en tech bedrijven om te experimenteren, te werken en te presenteren. Katoenhuis opereert hierbinnen als een incubator die samenwerking tussen tech-innovators en kunstenaars actief in verschillende disciplines, bevordert.
De officiële aankondiging van Katoenhuis staat deze week gepland tijdens Immersive Tech Week 2023 in Rotterdam.
Rotterdam verbinden met de internationale IX-gemeenschap
Door verbinding te maken met andere internationale IX-hubs, zal Katoenhuis internationale bedrijven en kunstenaars naar Rotterdam halen en vice versa, waardoor een globaal netwerk ontstaat dat innovatie stimuleert en de nieuwste technologische ontwikkelingen toont aan zowel professionals uit de industrie als het grote publiek.
Met haar focus op innovatie en creativiteit bevindt Katoenhuis zich in de positie om een leidende rol in te nemen bij het vormgeven van de toekomst van immersieve content en de impact daarvan op de samenleving. Katoenhuis heeft als doel om:

Het versterken van de Nederlandse IX-positie in samenwerking met Koelhuis District Eindhoven
Koelhuis District Eindhoven is een ambitieus, stedelijk vernieuwingsproject gericht op IX en welke fungeert als een proeftuin waar de creatieve –en tech gemeenschap werkt aan het gebruik van immersieve technologieën voor educatieve en artistieke doeleinden. In dit district worden woonfaciliteiten voor technisch en creatief talent gecombineerd met binnen- en buitenruimtes voor werk, cultuur en vrijetijdsbesteding. De samenwerking tussen deze twee mainportregio's moet ervoor zorgen dat Rotterdam en Eindhoven kennis uitwisselen en het Nederlandse immersieve technologielandschap samen versterken.

Het ecosysteem verenigen
De eerste kunstenaars en techbedrijven hebben zich reeds aangemeld als toekomstige gebruikers en huurders van Katoenhuis. In de komende maanden zullen diverse internationale partners deel gaan uitmaken van de hub en het steeds groter wordende ecosysteem. Naast het verbinden van Katoenhuis met het Brainport-netwerk, zoekt Katoenhuis actief naar kunstenaars, techbedrijven, studio's en onderwijsinstellingen die betrokken zijn bij IX. Dit alles om samen te werken en het ecosysteem in Rotterdam verder te ontwikkelen, en daarmee bij te dragen aan de uitwisseling van kennis binnen het wereldwijde netwerk van IX-centra. Over Rotterdam Makers District - M4H
De voormalige Merwe-Vierhavens, nu bekend als M4H, vormt samen met RDM het Rotterdam Makers District - een gemengd binnenstedelijk havengebied dat wonen, werken, maken en leren combineert en zich richt op de innovatieve maakindustrie. Het is een proeftuin voor o.a. nieuwe technologieën gebaseerd op digitalisering, robotisering en de thuisbasis van ondernemers en kennisinstellingen die werken aan en experimenteren met technische innovaties voor de toekomst van de stad en haar haven.

State–of–the–art Immersive Experience Hub is coming to Rotterdam!
Immersive Experiences (IX) is a rapidly growing multi-billion industry. The applications of immersive technologies, such as VR, Web 3.0, digital twins, and large-scale projections, span various sectors, including education, training & simulation, research & development, gaming, media, art, and entertainment. For the Netherlands and Rotterdam in particular, to take a leading position in this global market and create a social and economic impact, IX hubs are essential.
Once known as the "Van Bennekum's Havenbedrijf Katoenloods", Katoenhuis Rotterdam is situated in the heart of Rotterdam Makers District – M4H. After 1.5 years of preparation, it is about to become a leading, 6.000 m² IX hub connecting artists, tech companies, and educational institutions working with immersive technologies and creating an essential infrastructure for makers, talents, and producers to experiment, work, and present. Katoenhuis will act as an incubator, fostering collaboration between tech innovators and artists working in different disciplines.

Connecting Rotterdam to the international IX community

Strengthening the Dutch IX position together with Koelhuis District Eindhoven
Katoenhuis has a sister initiative in Eindhoven, Koelhuis District. It is an ambitious urban renewal project centered around IX, which will act as a living lab where the community works on the use of immersive technologies for, amongst others, educational and artistic purposes. Within the Koelhuis District, residential facilities for technical and creative talent will be combined with indoor and outdoor spaces for work, culture, and leisure. This partnership between these two mainport regions aims to ensure that Rotterdam and Eindhoven will exchange knowledge and strengthen the Dutch immersive technology landscape, securing its position as a leading hub for cutting-edge innovation and creativity internationally.

The first artists and tech companies have already signed up to become future users and tenants of Katoenhuis.
